Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
The growing number of stickied threads is begining to clutter the place, so I've created this all-singing all-dancing sub forum.
If you come accross any suitable tutorials from other sites, add links to them here!

Re: Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
OK so i dont know quite where to put this so i shall leave it in here and someone can move it if they think it should be someplace else Stripping models! OK to END the questions about what to use to strip metal models i give you this: Remove EVERYTHING plastic! put them in a metal paint can or tin and add this: Make sure not to get any on your hands use thick rubber gloves or long nose pliers to move the models about. you will see the paint start to come off right away, give them a stir with a toothbrush and leave them for now more than 10 min or so. you can leave them for an hour with no damage to the models but thin long swords etc will become very pliable so be careful! pick the models out with the pliers and drop them in a bucket of water/ run them under the tap. If you do use a bucket beware that your hands will start to feel cold and tingly even though the NitroMors is diluted! now use the toothbrush, scrub away for...ohh..lets say 10 seconds and you will be left with: for no effort what so ever. as for plastic models, i have tried many things (including a paste DESIGNED! to remove paint from plastic models....that did nothing...NOTHING! to the paint after leaving the stuff on for 10 hours!) by far the best is Acetone FREE nail varnish remover (thanks Tim) but be warned, this WILL mess up your plastic models if you leave it in too long. cover the models in the liquid, stir and check regularly. remove models and clean up with a brush, repeat until happy.

Re: Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
tried that one, it does work. BUT its not as fast as the nail varnish remover (although it does smell less!) and it takes more effort to get all the paint off........in my experiance at least

Re: Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
Brake fluid does the trick for plastic models ... you just got to be patient, because it takes days for the fluid to break down the paint. For metal models I swear by paint thinner ... does the job in a matter of minutes without peeling the skin of your hands.

i find brake fluid works, it does take days and you have to refresh it a lot for it to work well.

Simple Green. Brilliant stuff, you can leave you models in for a short while and then brush the paint off with a tootbrush, or leave it in for a few days and the paint just falls off. It's non toxic and biodegradable! Plus they now have a UK webstore! http://www.simplegreen.co.uk/haushalt_01.php.htmYou dont need to water it down, simply put it through a sieve and re use it :D Doesn't even small too bad,

http://www.youtube.com/user/epicfantasy ... zthmgnOmLAA decent tut with some good tool and armature tips. A 15 part series, and I made it up to 5, so it may be worth a watch all the way through, it may not. I'll watch the rest later...

Re: Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
Found this lil rust tutorial. While I am not massively impressed with the final outcome I do like the technique he whas used. So with a little tweaking i think it could be great: http://www.paulbatchelor.com/Rust.html

Re: Revolting Resources - tutorials, tips and links
Paintstripping:
Metal minis: ACETONE: just put your model in a jar, add acetone, stir once or twice: Take it out, brush it, rinse it and ready!
Plastics: SIMPLE GREEN: put your model in a jar again, seal it, leave it for some days: Take it out, brush it, rinse it and ready! Reuse your simple green by sieving it. I re-used my simple green jar for 5 times now and still no reduced effect.

What is simple green for you? I have never seen anything like that in the hardwarestrores. Does Obi or Hornbach sell it? Or do you Austrians have a more exquisite range of solvents than we Germans do?
